Ski Country

Telluride’s ski terrain is incredible, particularly on blue-sky days like today, Feb 12, 2011. The mountain is alive with locals skiing their little caches of snow, while visitors are gawking at the views and learning to get into the rhythms of nature. As for this local family, one child is up skiing with her buds; the other just got out of ACT testing and awaits a basketball game with Ignacio; and my hubbie and my took our German shepherd on a two-mile walk near our ranchlands and watched an old Western movie call The Last of the Dogmen. We love it!  We are most excited for Telluride’s varsity team to play Ignacio as they are good rivals and Telluride is quite geared up as they have been on a winning streak—five in a row including last nights, which was the first time the Dolores varsity girls lost to Telluride in 20 years!!!!! They lost only by a bucket. The boys won, too.

Telluride, Colorado 81435

Telluride, Colorado, is located in the southwestern portion of Colorado. It resides at 8,750 feet above sea level, while its sister-city, Mountain Village, is perched atop the hill and rests at 9,545 feet above ocean waters. Telluride earned a National Historic District status several decades back, which keeps our quaint Victorian town’s ambiance looking almost identical to its gold mining era of the late 1800s. Butch Cassidy robbed his first bank in Telluride, while real-life boxer Jack Dempsey and the Rocky Balboa franchise owner and actor Slyvester Stallone lived here for a spell, too. Because of its incredibly beautiful terrain, Telluride and Mountain Village has attached people from all over the earth to its corridors. Its world-class skiing and legendary steeps have helped create some of the West’s most dynamic skiers, mountain bikers and athletes. In fact, Telluride has many ultra-athletes who can claim some fame in the physical world.

Replete with a top-notch ski mountain, golf course, rivers, trails and parks, Telluride is also highly regarded for its cultural offerings. It’s known to be the Festival Capital of the Rockies. Telluride Bluegrass, Telluride Jazz, Telluride Film festivals have all made it to the top of the festival games bringing in the most gigantic names on earth.
